A group of Deaf people in Quebec decided on January 13, 1968 to create a provincial association to organize sports for Deaf or Hard of Hearing people. The group agreed to name the organization "Association amateure des sports des Sourds du Québec." In October 1973, members at the Deaf Sports Congress adopted a motion to change the name for "Federation sportive des Sourds du Québec inc". Few years later in March 1992, the organization change its name to "Association sportive des sourds du Québec inc" during a special Annual General Meeting to obtain a charitable number.
